2022 Basketball National Championships - Day 2 Recap
Men’s Division I Quarterfinals
Paul Quinn College 80 Bryant & Stratton - Albany 59
The #1 seed in the Men's Division I bracket, Paul Quinn College made it two wins in as many days by defeating #4 Bryant & Stratton - Albany by a score of 80-59. Spencer McElway and Brandon Johnson were the high scorers for the Tigers with 14 points each. Paul Quinn College advances to the National Championship game against Bryant & Stratton - Buffalo on Thursday, March 10th at 3:15pm.
Bryant & Stratton - Buffalo 87 Clinton College 80
#3 Bryant & Stratton Buffalo came into the semi-final round after beating The Apprentice School in Round 1 of the tournament. The Bobcats were able to pull out a close win vs #2 Clinton College by a score of 87-80. DJ Little led all scorers with 30 points, while Sam Dorissaint added 19 and Kalon Kimble added 18. BSC-Buffalo will play Paul Quinn College in the National Championship on Thursday, March 10th at 3:15pm.
Men's Division II Quarterfinals
Southern Maine CC 71 Miami-Hamilton 57
The #5 seed Southern Maine Community College led throughout as they advanced to the USCAA Division II semi-finals with a 71-57 victory over Miami-Hamilton. Four of the five Seawolves starters finished in double figures. Cameron Cousins led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Zachary Mickle finished with 16. DeSean Cromwell added 15 points while Ian Regan had 11. King Goss led the Harriers with 19 points while Michael Keehan had 15. SMCC shot 41.8% from the field for the game and outscored Miami-Hamilton by seven in each half.
Penn State Mont Alto 61 Kent St. Tuscarawas 56
After a slow start, #1 Penn State Mont Alto used a strong second half and held off #9 Kent St. Tuscarawas 61-56 to advance to the USCAA Division II semi-finals. A trio of Lions finished in double figures with Darrius Bush leading the way with 16 points and 11 boards. Quintyn Flemister had 13 points and Cameron Williams finished with 12. Kameron Shockley led the Golden Eagles with 19 points while Braden Rostad came off the bench and finished with nine on three 3-pointers. Mont Alto trailed 32-24 at the half but raced out of the halftime break to tie the game and outscored Kent St. 37-24 in the second half.
Penn State York 81 NHTI 67
The #3 seed Penn State York entered Tuesday’s DII contest on a 7-game win streak and extended it to 8 games after defeating #6 NHTI Lynx 81-67. Connor Hostetter and Deriq Brown led the way for York with 20 and 19 points respectively. PSU York advances to the semi-finals of the Men's Division II bracket and will play Johnson & Wales Charlotte on Wednesday at VSU at 3pm.
Johnson & Wales Charlotte 89 Penn State Wilkes-Barre 52
#7 Johnson & Wales Charlotte upset #2 Penn State Wilkes-Barre in a big way with a 89-52 victory on Tuesday. The Wildcats had four players in double figures and Anthoney Ray led the way with 21 points. They advance to play Penn State York in the semi-finals on Wednesday at VSU at 3 PM.
Women’s DII Quarterfinals
Central Maine CC 45 Maine Augusta 39
The #2 seed Central Maine connected on three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as they rallied to defeat #7 Maine Augusta 45-39 to advance to the Women's Division II USCAA semi-finals. The Moose led the low scoring game all of the way until the final quarter. They led 11-4 after the 1st, 19-16 at half, and 28-27 after three. Luna Love hit her only two 3-pointers of the game in the fourth that helped the Mustangs grab the lead. Eliza Brault led CMCC with 19 points while Emily Strachan finished with nine. Kaeti Butterfield led the Moose with 11 points and nine boards. Hope Butler scored 10 and Madeline Suhr finished with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Johnson & Wales Charlotte 59 Penn State Beaver 49
The #1 seed Johnson & Wales Charlotte entered the second round of USCAA National Tournament play after winning the last 8 of their last 10 regular season contests. Player of the Year in DII, Jordan McDuffie, recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Wildcats defeated the #8 seed Penn State Beaver Lady Lions by a score of 59-49, to advance to the semi-finals vs Penn State Schuylkill on Wednesday, 9pm at VSU.
Cincinnati Clermont 63 Southern Maine CC 51
#3 Cincinnati Clermont advanced to the USCAA semi-finals with a 63-51 victory over #6 Southern Maine CC=ommunity College. The Cougars used an 11-5 advantage in the 2 nd quarter to take control of the game. Victoria Brooks led the Cougars with20 points while Anna Voskuhl added 11. Tara Flanders led Southern Maine with 23 points and nine boards while Hannah Richards finished witheight. Cleremont led 14-11 after the 1 st , 25-16 at the half, and 46-35 heading to the final ten minutes. UCC shot 39.3% from the field for the game.
Penn State Schuylkill 67 Villa Maria College 64
#4 seed Penn State Schuylkill entered Round 2 of the USCAA Division II tournament, winning 12 of their last 13 games. The Lady Lions defeated Villa Maria in a game that was decided in overtime, ending with a score of 67-64. Penn State Schuylkill will play their next game against Johnson and Wales Charlotte in the semi-finals at 9pm, Wednesday at VSU.
Women’s DII Consolation
Penn State Fayette 4 Five Towns College 43
#10 Penn State Fayette used a strong second half as they defeated #9 Five Towns College 48-43 in a consolation match-up. Alison Boykin and Carissa Cyphert both scored 14 points for Fayette. Morgan Rigsby pulld down 18 boards to go with eight points while Abby Bickerton had 15 boards and seven points. Jordan Tobin led the Sound with nine points and 18 rebounds. Nikki Kemp finished with eight points. Five Towns led 18-13 at the half but the Lions outscored the Sound 17-12 in the third quarter and broke the tie with a 18-13 advantage in the final ten minutes.
Women's DI Consolation
Florida National 79 Bryant & Stratton - Syracuse 71
Brandilyn Robertson, Adria Stewart, and Anita Donaque finished in double figures as #8 Florida National rallied for a 79-71 victory over #4 Bryant & Stratton - Syracuse in a Women's Division I consolation match-up. Robertson finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Stewart finished with 17 points and 11 boards. Donaue added 15 for the Conquistadors who shot 36.3% from the field for the game. Traynise Delaney led BSC-Syracuse with 34 points while Eunice Sillong finished with 14 points and 18 rebounds. FNU trailed by as many as 20 and was behind 38-26 at half. They outscored the Bobcats 53-33 in the second half.
Bryant & Stratton Albany 55 Mid-Atlantic Christian University 47
#6 Bryant & Stratton Albany faced off against #7 Mid Atlantic Christian University on day 2 of the USCAA Basketball National Championship and came out on top with a score of 55-47. Hasjina Gaddy had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Men's DI Consolation
Bluefield State 111 Bryant & Stratton - Syracuse 80
The #8 seed in Men's Division I, Bluefield State, used a team effort with six players finishing in double figures as they raced past Bryant & Stratton Syracuse 111-80 in a consolation match-up. Marquez Cooper led The Big Blue with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Desmond Freeman finished with 20. Jordan Hinds added 13, Khamaury McMillan had 12, Kesean Robinson had 11, and Landry Palata added 10. Jameel Abdallah led the Bobcats with 22 points and 19 boards. Bluefield State forced 40 turnovers with every player that saw action recording a steal.
The Apprentice School 86 Manor College 71
The Apprentice School defeated Manor College in a consolation game of the Men's DI bracket, winning by a score of 86-71. Karree Smith led all scorers with 24 points for the Builders.
Men's DII Consolation
Southwestern Adventist University 68 Berkeley College (NY) 59
#8 Southwestern Adventist used a big first half and held off all rallies from #10 Berkeley College (NY) as they won 68-59 in a Men's Division II consolation match-up. Five Knights scored in double figures for SWAU. Jorge Zuniga connected on five 3-pointers and led the team with 15 points off the bench. Alan Aviles added 13 while Sitivi Fehoko, Miles Meredith, and Marcus Dyer all finished with 11. Raheem Swinton led Berkeley with 12 points while Dontel Henry added 10. Southwestern Adventist connected on six 3-pointers (6 for 24) while Berkeley was 0 for 15.
