Lyon Captures 1st USCAA Men's Soccer Title
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Lyon Scots scored twice in a ten-minute span of the second half to help propel them to a 3-0 victory over Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse for the 2024 USCAA Men’s Soccer Division I Championship on Monday afternoon. Erik Oliveira recorded a hat trick with assists on all three Lyon goals.
Lyon (11-5-4) opened the scoring with just under nine minutes left in the first half as Lucca Torres took a feed from Oliveira and blasted one into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the 36:18 mark.
In the second half, Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse (8-2-1) had a couple of chances in the middle of the half as shots were swatted away by goalkeeper Gabriel Rangel.
The Scots pushed the lead to 2-0 as Gustavo Giesbrecht was on the receiving end of an Oliveira pass 64:44 into the game. Oliveira aided the final goal at 74:53 as he connected with Matheus Nunes for the 3-0 lead.
The Bobcats held an 18-15 advantage in shots, while Lyon had an 8-4 lead in shots on goal. Rangel recorded four saves for the clean sheet.
